Chain restaurant. Standard design. Old. Everything is done through a hole, accordingly. The red hat is really an attic, not a decoration. The attic is filled with junk. Just the kind of stuff you’d expect in an attic. From Christmas ornaments to trophy cups: best restaurant in something 2003. Glasses, napkins, little boxes, someone’s forgotten belongings, dust, a ladder, and a hatch in the roof measuring 40×40 cm.
On the roof, there’s a view of a typical shopping park in a village near a big city. There are restaurants from various chains, a supermarket, chain textile stores, sporting goods, a hardware store, a car dealership, a gas station, an auto repair shop, and parking.
The restaurant is under renovation. Fresh tiles. A new suspended ceiling. In the open spaces of the ceiling, the old, grease-stained tiles are treacherously visible. The furniture makers are at work. In some places, there’s the smell of fresh acrylic paint. It’s a cozy smell. Those who have moved into their apartments after renovations know it well.
Our task is to start up and check everything that cools and heats. At the same time, we also need to clean the dust off the condenser radiators in the refrigerators.
All the equipment is just junk. But they don’t throw it away. Okay. We keep working. There’s an advantage to hourly work. You know for sure that someone will pay for all of this. For putting the outdoor units of the refrigerators in the attic, right under the sloped roof, for the hatch to the roof being so narrow that shoulders have to go through one at a time, for the false panel of the refrigerator being secured with screws from the inside instead of latches, for every little screw that falls off the screwdriver, for the low ceiling and the unit being installed on top of the refrigerator, for everything in general.
There was a problem with starting the air conditioner. We spoke with Houston. The circuit board burned out. We need to order a new one.
Everything else was started up, checked, and turned off. They also brought in the ice cream machine. It’s heavy. The old, dirty remote control for the air conditioner looked especially striking against the new tiles.
