Does your company have a marketing department? If not, that’s fine. If you do, don’t think that only those people are responsible for marketing. Accounting is marketing. The marketing department is not. Marketing is something that everyone in your company is constantly engaged in, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Marketing and communications are one and the same:
- Every time you pick up the phone, it’s marketing.
- Every time you send an email, it’s marketing.
- Every time someone uses your product, it’s marketing.
- Every time you write something on your website, it’s marketing.
- If you’re developing software, every error message is marketing.
- If you own a restaurant, offering mint chewing gum after lunch is marketing.
- If you are in retail, the cashier at the checkout is marketing.
- If you provide services, the invoice you send is for marketing.
Agree that all these little things are more important than the choice of what exactly to include in the conference materials folder. Marketing is not just a series of separate actions. It is the overall sum of everything you do.
