Refrigerators and air conditioners are found not only in restaurants but, surprise, also in morgues. Worse than a morgue could be a refrigerator for dead animals in a pet shelter. Because it’s not a set of tightly sealed cabinets, but an ordinary freezer with bags inside. There’s an evaporator inside. It has a fan. The fan’s motor is broken. The staff at the shelter couldn’t think of anything smarter than just turning off the freezer and closing it. So, inside it’s 20 degrees Celsius, while outside, at the warmest part of the day, it’s 16. The bodies of the animals are piled into special thick body bags. And, come on, it’s not that hard to tie the bags shut. They’re just sitting there, open bags inside the “steam room.” The stench is incredible. Well, I can survive this ordeal. But they’ve permanently ruined their freezer. There’s no ventilation in there, and the doors are airtight. Why couldn’t they take the bodies outside? If for some reason they couldn’t take the bodies outside, why not seal the bags with the bodies inside? What kind of damn laziness and shortsightedness is this… Although… who else would want to work a job like that…
I asked them for a fan to ventilate the room, but they said no. So, I took out the bags to at least be able to work a bit. The stench is still there. When I removed the broken fan, I turned on the system to at least get some air circulating with the second fan.
Well, actually, I’m on an hourly rate. I took a breath, did 45 seconds of manipulations inside, then rushed out to breathe. They will pay for their stupidity. But it’s hard to catch a breath. First of all, the shelter has quite a strong odor. Secondly, there’s a trash can right there. Thirdly, there’s a laundry nearby that smells not only of detergent but also of whatever they use to wash those mattresses and blankets. To breathe properly, you need to know how to position your nose with the wind.
Actually, the losses are only emotional. Although, I’ve also completely lost my appetite. Just thinking about that stench makes my throat tighten.
